May 11, 2006 - 22nd Annual High School Programming Contest

The MCLA Computer Science department held their twenty-second annual high school programming contest on Thursday, May 11. Eight teams from local schools began solving problems at 9:00 am. This year's contest, Enter the MCLATRIX, was based on the well-known motion picture "The Matrix." Students wrote programs and brought the results to the "Operations Room", where the MCLATRIX graded their program output. First prize was awarded to Team Delta from New Lebanon High School for solving the most programs within the four-hour time limit. Second place went to Team Charlie from Pittsfield High. Third place was given to Team Foxtrot from Lee Middle and High School. The contest also provides an award for the best team consisting of students with programming experience of one year or less. This year's "Rookie" award went to Team Juliet from Pittsfield High School. The Computer Science department members were very impressed with all eight teams. The students, who wrote their programs in five different programming languages, quickly got a grasp on all of the problems. Although only four awards were given, all participants got an MCLATRIX T-shirt, and had a fun and exciting day.
